Making Rolled Crimp 12ga Slugs
I was looking at a video of how rolled crimp works. It gave me an idea.
I shoot Hornady slugs, which are around $12-$14 for a box of 5.
Does anyone know if you can get the componets to make or reload them?
I'm sure I could reload them for ALOT less than retail.

BP has a .50x12 ga wad that might work with a Hornady bullet:

You can buy Lightfield slugs for loading.

I'll need sabots for the Hornady SST slugs that are in the factory ammo. I'm not going to shoot lead slugs because I dont want to mess with pouring lead. I have shot lightfield slugs and had great success, but I doubt if anyone sells there slugs for reloading.
Cost me about $3 to take a slug apart. I measured the bullet, it's a .500 S&W 300gr pistol bullet.
I'll need the plastic sabot that fits in the shotgun hull and the little rubber cusion that fits in the bottom of the wad under the bullet.0 -
You might look at the Lyman slug new style. Looks like a big pellet and loads with a wad as the sabot using a folded crimp. Works well in AA's with red wad over blue dot. My combat 870 Rem would keep them on a paper plate at hunting distance for a hand held shotgun. I'm sure those $3 apiece ones expand better. Ebay had a guy that sold hard cast ones he said would shoot through a hog. I just make mine out of soft lead and they expand to over an inch in soft dirt. 0 -
I think that's what the Lightfield slugs look like, a big pellet. 0 -
Hey, that looks right up my alley[:D][:D]

I sell a lot of the Lyman slugs and wads to hand loaders in my shop in both 12 & 20 ga. They use a fold crimp and low brass hulls, Winchester or Remington. SR4759 powder and they have less than 4.00 per 5 rounds and they are very accurate. 0
