Best Gun Finish....

I have a Bersa Thunder CC and the bluing is starting to wear off.

I've never refinished a firearm but I am comfortable trying it on this Bersa.

So far, I have seen the usual bluing stuff in a blue bottle but I also ran across "Gun Kote."

I want something really durable and having a choice of colors won't be bad either.

I guess I would probably have to blue the barrel with the usual stuff.

Do you treat the inside of the barrel too?

    Nope. You don't even need to blue the outside of the barrel. It is hidden by the slide. For a Thunder you can limit yourself to bluing the frame and slide.
    Or you can swing by Wally World and get a can of Krylon. Lots of colors to choose from. [:D]

    The bake-on finishes like Gun-Kote are epoxy based and pretty good.
    I'd also go for one of those for something like your Bersa.

    Cold bluing products are OK for touching up worn normal bluing, but cold blue is NOT durable (it wears off pretty easily) and it also provides negligible rust protection. I wouldn't refinish a "working" gun in this.

    No, you don't need to finish the INSIDE of the barrel.

    You "could" finish the outside of the barrel, if you wanted to, though as mentioned, that area really isn't seen nor subject to holster/carry wear, though rubbing of the barrel against the slide can wear off the finish in certain areas.

    I like andrewsw16's answer. I had an Ithaca G.I. .45 once, that I painted in all red, white, and blue stripes. Everyone thought it was a water pistol, except for a guy who spotted some shiny steel through the ejection port. Some guys cussed at me, but at the time you could buy G.I. 1911's at gun shows for $55. And it was easy to touch up, and it was patriotic[:D].

    OK....painting it is definitely an option.

    How do you remove the existing blue?

    edit: I used CLR...worked like a charm.

    In addition to the above.

    Duracoat makes a nice little one gun package for about $30. Does not require you to "bake" anything and is very easy to use.

    I have used one part paints and two part epoxy, both worked well, but the easy of the Duracoat package just makes everything easy. Comes in many colors.
