New GSG 1911-22
Gentlemen as you probably know there are several 22 caliber 1911 guns on the market honoring the 100th anniversary of the Colt MOdel 1911A. I have the joy of just purchasing a GSG 1911-22 and was I pleasantly surprised when I wrung it out at my local range. First, it is all steel, no alloys, it is full sized 1911, not a 3/4 scale weight grip is all 1911. And accuracy, you'd be amazed. GSG is German Sport Guns. The only fail to feed was Blazer 22 lr. It shot out the black of the "l" target which I use, using Federal Gold Cup, CCI mini mags, and Remington Thunder bolts. It spread out Winchester high speed, CCI standard velocity and Wolf Match. I plan to test some of the many other 22 lr's out there to find which groups best at 25 yards, yes all the shooting was done at 25 yards. I love this gun.

Best check it with a magnet. Unless GSG has changed their manufacturing processes, the slide and frame are actually made of potmetal, i.e. zinc die castings. That's how they are able to sell it so economically.0 -

Sorry, but you are very sadly mistaken. That is not all steel, and the slide has to be made of something very light in weight. If the slide were made of steel, it would be too heavy, and not cycle the 22 LR ammo...any of it. That is just the plain laws of physics at work. For the price of it, It is most likely that the frame is not steel either, as it would be to hard to forge or cast, and then machine for that price. I am not saying it is not a nice plinker, and that it does not have some steel in it, but it is mostly not made of steel.

Thanks for the eye opener. I put a magnet on the frame and slide and they are not steel but an alloy. I am sure I read it was all steel and I took that and ran with it. OK, it is a disappointment, but the revelation does not damp my enthusiasm for the gun and it's accuracy. 0
