Spencer American Hammerless Shotgun

Does anyone know any history or other facts about Spencer shotguns?

It's a Trade Name used on guns sold by Hibbard, Bartlett & Spencer Co. of Chicago, during the early years of the 20th Century. It was probably made by Crescent.

According to the late Joe Vorisek's "Shotgun Markings 1865-1940" the May 12, 1891 patent on forearm iron identifies this Spencer as the hammerless double made by Torkalson Arms Co. of Worcester and Warren, MA 1903-1908.

Look at the pictures, read the name on the gun. It does not say SPENCER AMERICAN HAMMERLESS. It says SPENCER GUN CO which was a "Trade Brand Name" used by Crescent Fire Arms Company on guns made for and sold by Hibbard Spencer Bartlett of Chicago,IL . And while it may be a good basic shotgun,I do consider the price to be a bit high. The seller can ask what he wants. Let's see if it sells.

Vorisek lists Spencer & Co as a Crescent brand name for HSB also, but follows with: "Torkelson Arms Co. made if a hammerless double with a patent date of May 12, 1891"

But who knows, Torkelson may have sold the patent rights or his company to Crescent. Here's the patent:
