what is a parts kit? does it build a complete rifle? this is for an ar-10

    i was looking through a shotgun news and saw a bunch of adds for gun kits......are these fully functioning weapons?......some said that they were complete accept they didn't have the reciever.......they were cheaper than the actual gun so i was wondering what the deal was.

    Pretty much anything from two springs to everything but a functionable receiver.

    I think you mean Lower Parts kit, LPK. That would be a more "standard term" for an AR build.

    Most LPK's will have the pistol grip and everything below the bolt carrier. Mag release, bolt catch, safety, trigger assembly, pivot/take down pins and the little springs and dowels needed.

    To help clarify:
    Upper and upper assembly, Barrel and all handgrips and upper receiver. Also, usually includes bolt and carrier, should, BUT not always, will say if does not. The bolt is rather small, the carrier is the longer piece. Many people just thing the carrier is the bolt as well.

    Lower, the stripped lower is "the Rifle". Needs FFL to transfer.

    You will also need your stock, buffer tube, buffer spring and buffer.

    IMO, for anything other than plinking get a better trigger. I think the RRA(Rock River Arms) LPK with the 2-stage trigger is an okay value. But that's for an AR-15, never been around the large frame AR's much. Others should chime in, I'm no big expert just know what I use. Some have had luck with just a trigger spring kit. I've shot a Model 1 sales AR. Actually good accuracy, but trigger was horrendous. Worst I've ever pulled in an AR. Why I say, upgrade trigger. Good luck with your build.

    A complete parts kit would include everything to assemble a firearm with the exception of the receiver, which is the actual firearm. Due to the restrictions on the further importation of surplus barrels for semi automatic firearms implemented during the GW Bush administration, many parts kits now come without a barrel.
