Remington 1100 .410 not firing
A friend of mine asked me about an 1100 .410 he just got that won't fire. I don't have one, so I won't know what I'm looking at until I see it, but I thought I'd ask if anyone here ever had issues with an 1100. From what he says when the bolt is forward it does not appear to lock up. (When he lets the bolt go forward he can still move it with his finger) The firing pin is good (according to him) but the bolt apparently will not lock in the receiver, which tells me he's probably lucky it didn't fire. Anything obvious to check first before getting too deep into this thing? Or should it head straight to the 'smith?

Would this happen to be a skeet gun? If so, it might have a 2 1/2" chamber. 0 -
I am not a expert, I worked on a 12ga 1100 with the same kind of symptoms.
It had been stored for 15 years and wouldn't fire.
I tore it down and it looked like there was 100 years of crud in it that had been baked rock hard.
Literally had to chisel it out, a double cleaning, new o ring and it was fine. Finally.

Check the "O" ring. May need a new ring. 0 -
Make sure the barrel is seated properly and the mag. tube cap is tight...

if you mis-assemble the o ring and gas rings this can happen, check those 1st 0 -
Like the others said, to verifiy clear chamber remove barrel and check to see if a round will seat. If so then the problem is in the receiver.
Over the years I've owned at least one of darn near every Remington semi model shotgun ever made, I like the 1100's best, however all have been 12ga.0 -
Thanks for the replies. I'll sugesst he take it down for a good deep cleaning before he tries anything else 0
