Great pistol, but only suitable for jacketed/copper plated bullets due to Glock's polygonal rifling.
Some folks swap-out the trigger bar for a much lighter pull, but I've left mine as-is & actually gotten quite used to the heavy pull.

    YMMV

It is a fully serviceable pistol in a good defense caliber. Practice with it to get used to its trigger. Most are very accurate. Good night sights are a plus or a rail light with or without laser.

You can get a better handgun than a Glock, but not many and not as affordable. I've been a 1911 fan ever since 1970 while in country. I have five now (still love them). But.....I have a Gen-2 that I love. It is accurate, very safe and easy to carry. I have a Glock .40 barrel, a Glock Sig 357 barrel and a Lone Wolf 9mm barrel for my Model 22. They all work flawlessly and are all accurate. With the 9mm barrel, I use Glock 17 mags. There is nothing else to do to switch calibers.

    Have fun with it.

BTW, there are stories that the Glock Gen-4 series is starting to experience problems, due to Glock sub-contracting parts out to save money.

I am the caretaker of a model 22 in 40S&W from a friend who passed on and wants his nephew to take possession in a few years when he's legal. We shot it quite a bit while he was alive, and regardless of who was behind the trigger, the thing threw a pattern instead of a group.
We tried a new barrel, new trigger bar, recoil springs, polishing, over-oiling, everything.
    No change.
We even tried shooting from a Ransom Rest once, and it didn't make any difference at all.
Can't wait till that kid grows up and I can get this piece 'o'crap outta my safe.

    Sure.

Glock 22 is a reliable, durable pistol in a moderately powerful handgun caliber, with enough accuracy to serve as a good "service" type pistol.

Consequently, the Glock 22 is one of the most (if not THE most) popular handguns in service use by American law enforcement today.

Whether or not its BEST choice for you depends on a whole bunch of subjective factors like your hand size, tolerance to recoil, personal preference about gun action type, ammo/practice budget, desire to carry concealed, whether or not you're the only user, etc.

But absolutely, this pistol is perfectly fine for home defense, and you could definitely do worse.

Some very large Police Departments including the Illinois State Police issue the G22. I have shot several examples of them and they were all reliable and accurate enough for their intended purpose.

i like my glock 22, i put adjustable rear sights on it, a lone wolf extended slide release and an extended mag release. it took me 2 boxes of ammo to start hitting the bullseye at 50'. nice gun to have.
easy to take apart, remove mag, clear weapon, pull trigger, pull slide back an eight inch and lift the dual slide release and the slide pulls off. easy to clean and service (all those parts you can change yourself)[:)]
