Vortex Scopes

Ive shifted scopes for years without purchasing a new one for quite a while. Im behing the times and wonder what a vortex scope offers that I dont have on my scopes?

    Anybody have any experience with them? Pro's and Con's ?

    I have not had any personal experience with them, but Nononsense has used both the Viper, and Razor, if I am not mistaken. Ask him directly. There also should be a couple other threads on here if you use the search function.

    heard on other forums they are the real deal.was looking at one and natchez had the 3200 elites on clearence so i went that route

    I have a couple and have been very pleased. My local FFL dealer is a friend and when we talked about them a few months ago he said they had sold a bunch and never had any issues with any of them. Their Viper binoculars are also on my list to have. I will be buyng more of them.

    I can't and won't make any blanket statements about quality simply because Vortex has several lines of scopes starting with an economy line which I have no experience with at all. I have never found the lesser quality lines of scopes to be worth the cost when compared to the better or top-of-the-line scopes. Others will disagree and in fact, stand up for the cheapies as being of great value. The reality is that cheap scopes are exactly that, cheap. They can't be priced low and be the same quality as the best scopes costing 10 times more. Ce n'est pas possible.

    However, I own and shoot with the Viper PST 6-24 and Razor HD 5-20. Both are superb for the price range, especially since comparable scopes will run you significantly more money. I'm using these two scopes interchangeably with Nightforce and U.S. Optics riflescopes. I suggest getting familiar with the reticles before making a decision on the model. Some are particularly complex while others are straightforward. Be sure to know the difference between MOA vs MRAD and first vs second focal plane.

    I recently purchased a Viper 6.5-20x50 with the wide duplex and I could not be happier. I was origionally going to buy the Leupold VX-3 in the same size. But in comparing the two side by side in various light conditions and on ranges from 100 yards to 5 miles I was unable to detect any major differance between the two. Actually that is not true, there was one major difference, the Leupold was twice the money.

    Agree with nononsense's post. The Razor and Viper PST are the #1 and 2 respectively on their 6 model series.

    Mk 19 - the only negative thing (at least for me) on the Viper series scope (Viper HS and PST are very good) is it's insufficient eye relief of ~3.1"-3.3". The eye relief is one of the critical things I look for in a scope.

    I bought one of the cheapest Vortex scopes and felt it was decent for the money (on sale, less than $100). Normally, I would agree with nn about the lowest tier scopes, but in this case I feel the scope really is a representation of the $160-$225 class you would find it in. I will say the scopes you get hanging on the rack in a plastic container are exactly junk.

    This low end Vortex scope has parts not made in Japan like their higher end scopes. Indeed most of it's parts were made either in China or the Philipines. The exception is the glass. I will say, I don't expect the world out of this scope and it certainly wouldn't be the scope I would hang the hunt of a lifetime on. But, it does do the job well enough when just going to the range and target shooting. And walking around varmint shooting.

    Anyhow, my other scope is a Viper. I have it installed on my 6.5 Grendel. The optics are very clear. And, the scope very repeatable.
    I've done several box tests and it does quite well. My biggest gripe with it was that it didn't quite have enough elevation to get my Grendel out to 1k. I had to use holdover after dialing up all the way.

    A member of our gunclub has a Vortex Razor. And being the firing line socialite that I am, talked my way into getting to shoot a group with it @ 300. I will say the optics are incredible. Certainly as good as my Nightforce at equal power. His rifle is tremendously accurate and it was literally no challenge to shoot a 1/2" group on a fine calm day. That is my only experience with the 5-25x50 Razor. I will say I was impressed.
