Sheintod DRGM Pistole
I've looked online to try and figure out what this is. I can't discern whether or not it's a flare gun, gas gun, or actually shoots a round. Can anyone shed some light on the subject? I can take addition pictures if it will help! Thanks so much!

It's a early type of personal protection pistol. Before tear gas compounds were developed they used ground up tobacco powder. Sheintod in German means appearance of death, or something similar. From it's looks it appears to be quite old, probably from the early years of the 20th Century, prior to the First World war.
Not sure how much collectors value it has? It would be considered what is called by certain collectors, "Firearms Curiosa" more then anything else.0 -

JC- you can check with the BATFE Firearms Technical Branch over in Morgantown WV. Like a tear gas gun, those cannot fire ball ammo without self destructing- and the question would be whether a cloud of red pepper could be considered "a projectile". Tear gas guns fire a cloud of CN teargas crystals, but are not firearms. (yes, there were a few gas guns that COULD fire ball- they are AOWs) 0 -
In my references the various Sheintod personal protection pistols are identified as using a 12 mm shell.
12 mm is the same older designation as the Germans used for the original .410 shotgun shell. In the Adolf Frank catalog they have a wood cut of one of the 12mm shells, It sure looks like .410 to me. You might see if a 2 1/2" .410 chambers in your Sheintod. If it does I would get a opinion from the BATF technical branch, prior to selling it.0
