1911 compact magazine

I have a Springfield Micro Compact 45 can any standard magazine fit in this gun... I realize it would stick out past the bottom but could you get a 10rd magazine to fit?

  I dont have your exact pistol but as a rule you can most likely install any 1911 type magazine designed for any FULL size framed gun in any compact or sub compact 1911 type pistol even a 10 round one.

  Yes, as PerryShooter states: Any magazine designed for the standard 1911 should fit other 1911 type frames. Just check the location of the locking notch in the magazine to be sure.

  ProMag makes a 40 round drum for 1911 pistols for when you are in a bad situation and the cavalry is NOT coming to help.

  But...you need to be careful how hard you "seat" the magazine into pistol. Recently during some down time at our firearms training, I was shooting my Kimber Ultra and when cleaning it I found tip the ejector broken off. Called Kimber to order a new one and first thing they asked was if I had using a full sized magazine (which I had) as that would break off the tip of the ejector. I just assumed that the extra length and how hard you seat the magazine would break off the tip. I do "seat" my magzines a bit hard.

  Is that why some of the older 10 round magazines had that weird metal nail looking thing by the toe of the magazine.

  Yup.
  My Metalform 10 shots have a little stop lug just stamped into the sheet metal of the tube. My Ed Browns have a bar spot welded into place. It actually covers a stamped divot, I bet they got their tubes from Metalform. The Wilson also has a welded or soldered on lug. Tripp Cobramag 10 shots have a stop lug molded as part of the plastic baseplate.
  
  My 11 shot MecGars had no stop so I only used them to gently load the gun to start, not a speed reload.
