Kel-tec P11 Magazines
Hi guys. I got a kel-tec P-11 coming to my FFL and I would like to know from those of you who also own these, what magazines work best in these? Original S&W 59/69 series mags, Mec-gar 59 series mags, pro-mag? Does it matter the brand? How do the 20 and 30 round mags work? Any help would be much appreciated.

Mec-Gar's are the OEM mags. They make a 12 rounder that KelTec sells, it fit flush with the bottom of the grip. I bought a couple from KelTec when I CCW'd the P 11.
I tried a bunch of the S & W high caps, they work but are to long, can't use for pocket carry. If you can carry a high cap with out it printing it would work out OK, though.
Never tried 20 or 30 rounders in my P 11, they are so long it would make it look ridiculous. Unless your buying the P11 with the intention of using it as a spray and pray ghetto blaster to use in real dicey situations, I would forget about the 20 & 30 rounders.0 -

S&W OEM magazines are pricey. If I got the 20 or 30 rounders, I don't think I'd have much use for them either. I'm sure I will end up trying several different types of mags. I'd just like to know what to avoid and what ought to work. Thanks for the info.0 -
I've got two Kel-Tec P11s. At first I planned on big time use of the high cap S&W mags because I have a butt load of them. But I have had a few malfunctions with them when at the same time I have not had malfunctions with the Kel-Tec mags. Not sure why, but I decided to stop messing with it and just stick with Kel-Tec mags for the Kel-Tec and S&W mags for the S&W guns. No sense in me trying to figure out what is going on when I have malfuntions in the Kel-Tec using S&W mags. Besides, the idea with the Kel-Tec is to have one of the smallest 9MM handguns available so why make it a bigger gun with the longer S&W mags sticking out of the grip?
I have also read several different places that the older, earlier S&W mags sometimes cause problems when used in the Kel-Tec. Once again, I don't have the time or interest in figuring out why.0 -
Additionally, the P11 and P3AT have plastic magazine catches that would see a bit more load.
Both these pistols handle better with extended mag base plates that support the pinkie.0 -
I have had problems with 12 round mags by Kel-Tec. It seemed there was little difference between the 10 round and the 12round. On the 12 round it seemed the follower was more hollow & didn't have the spring stabilizer legs that the 10 did and the spring seemed staged to a smaller spring winding towards the follower. I converted my 12 round mags to 10 rounds changing out the follower & spring when is seemed not to feed the first round & the slid refused to lock back and leaving 1 round within the mag. Stick to factory 10 round mags. I, yet to this day, have not seen any problems with Kel-Tec's 10 round mags. You may find Wolf 18 LBS recoil springs more favorable than factory. 0 -
i used the sw59 factory 20 round and promag 30 round with no problems 0 -
I broke down and ordered two Mec-Gar 17 rounders to carry as spares. I hope they work out. I also ordered a DeSantis leather IWB holster with a single belt hook and adjustable "cant." 0 -
Why not just use the Keltec magazines? They are made by Mec Gar. 0 -
The mec-gar 59 series 17 rounders did not fit my P-11. They would not catch the magazine latch and kept falling out. The upper portion (shoulders) of the 17 round mags were a slightly different height than that of the stock magazine. I will exchange them for some G17 mags. I ordered 3 10 rounders from Kel-tec and one pro-mag 30 rounder from .... that will be here in a few days. I will try the Pro-mag 30 rounder when I get a chance. 0 -
I just started to reload 357SIG for a P11 conversion and in testing I found the 9mm and 357SIG both feed fine from the 9mm Megar mags.
Again, the pinkie extension gives a better grip and feel to the short P11 grip.0
