Simplex 14 mm shotgun (French)
Looking for information on a odd gauge 14mm single shot, Shotgun.
This 1932 model made in Saint Etienne France seems rare. Cant search up anything specific to this 14mm caliber.
Anyone have any information to share on this?

My WAG is that it's the French, Metric designation of 28 Gauge. Seems odd though I have never run across any other European shotguns marked that way. I guess the French just like to do things differently? 0 -
Now wondering if the 14mm marked on the barel is shell length or if .410 possibly what you said 28ga. Damn odd ga and metrics...

It seems to be close to 32 gauge.
I googled some mention of 14mm shotguns as popular in Europe. Which makes sense considering this one is from France.0 -

14mm would be the nominal diameter. It's over half inch, way bigger then the .410. They call the .410, 12mm over there in Europe.
The only thing else it could be would be 32 Gauge, which is a shotgun shell they use over there. But I would imagine that the French would mark their shotgun 32 Gauge, if that what it was.0 -

Something to keep around the barn or kitchen for shooting pests without doing much collateral damage.

14mm would be way bigger then a Garden Gun. Most of them I have run across have been for 9mm Flobert rimfire cartridges, that were loaded with shot. The way they live over with the houses all squeezed together, if some guy was using a 28 Gauge in his back yard, they would have the gendarmes all over him.0 -

Sorry, can't find anything about the scatter gun itself in question.
EDIT Aha! Thought I had one-- the shotshell is about 2-3/8" long, 5/8" brass base, green paper hull with 7-1/2 [shot size]marked on the business end. Base reads "CRUZEIRO 32 CBC"

It could have been a cadet or training gun of sorts. The single shot and age factors (1932). Wish old Levi had left some info on it.
Grandpa was from France. This gun has laid around in a closet for many years. It may be going on the broker side soon. There are no trainees around here.0 -
