falling block rifles
I really want a falling block but, I've got a list a mile long of shotguns to buy and I already have enough hunting rifles.
Does anyone have any know of any falling blocks that are good but cost less than some of the others

About the only fallingblock you are going to find on a budget is a Stevens model 30 in 22LR.
However, there are several 1885 Winchester's of newer mfg out there, as well as some 1874 Sharp's repro's, if you don't mind BPCR type guns. Some of the newer 1885 repro's from Japan, can be had in various chamberings from 22 Hornet to 45-90, and everything else inbetween.
Then there is the Ruger #1.

Take a look on the auction side...use the search, under rifles, and then single shot. You can put in 1885, 1874, sharps, Pedersole, Uberti, Winchester, and Browning. There has been recent runs of the Winchester licensed 1885, in several chamberings, including 22 hORNET, 223 REMINGTON 30-06, 32-40, 38-55, 7mm Magnum(both Remington, and WSM), 405 Winchester(down Bert H.[:D]), 45-70, and 45-90). I have a modern Browning 1885 BPCR in 45-70. It came with the creedmore sights(vernier tang, and globe front). I can smack a gallon milk jug at 400 yards regularly with it, when I do my part.

The model 30 fits the bill it would be nice to have something a little bigger, a ruger would work if I can find one chambered in something I already have for a good price, could you give me the names of some of these other rifles. 0 -
Local shop has a Mossberg on the wall - looks like a copy of the Ruger, this one is in 223 and under $400 ... 0 -
I have a Ruger #1 in 25-06 and a Browning 1885 in 22-250. Both are great fun to shoot, once you get used to the triggers. It does make you concentrate more when you know the one shot is all you are going to get before the critter disappears. The Rugers come in about every caliber commonly encountered so I'm sure you can find one in a caliber you want. 0
