I NEED TO TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT WHAT I BELIEVE IS A GUN THAT ACKLEY BUILT BEFORE HE WENT COMMERCIAL.IT HAS THE ORIGINAL MAUSER ACTION AND HIS NAME STAMPED ON THE BARREL AND 244 REM THAT IS ALL BUT SOME NUMBERS STAMPED ON THE BOTTOM PLATE WHICH I BELIEVE WERE THE ORIGINAL MAUSER SERIAL NU'S.ANY HELP IN WHAT THIS GUN MITE BE WORTH WOULD BE APPRECIATED

  P.O. ACKLEY always was commercial, he was a government inspector during ww2 and had a gunsmithing business after. as to your .244; a. it could have been built by him or his shop or b. it could have been built by someone else and CHAMBERED in .244 'ackley improved'. some in focus pix's of the markings would help a lot.

Besides building complete rifles the fellows in Ackley's shop re-barreled hundreds of common every day rifles with new barrels. Often these were stamped with his name even thought he didn't build the entire rifle.
