What is required to ship a hunting rifle?
I purchased a 270 WSM on this site from a 1st time seller and want to check requirements for him to ship the rifle from Florida to an FFL here in North Dakota. I told him all he needs to do is ship it to an FFL holder and that it is not required to have an FFL holder ship it for him. Is this correct or does he need to pay an FFL holder to ship it for him? I also plan on having it insured just in case it gets plucked during shipping.

Some FFL Dealers will not accept a shipment from a non-licensee. Best check to see what the receiver's policy is. Just because it is legal does not require a dealer to recieve it. 0 -
He is not a dealer. Just a guy who never used his hunting rifle. I will check with the receiving FFL tomorrow if they are OK with it not coming from an FFL holder.

Well, at his end all he has to do is to ship the darn thing!
Now, the problem is at your end. You must ensure that your FFL will be willing to accept a shipment from a non-FFL.
So, and in conclusion, all he needs to know is where to ship it, he throws his identification into the box, and Off It Goes!!0 -
I'd also suggest that it be well packaged.
You'd not believe the sort of shape some firearms have gotten to me!
Insured adequately for retail replacement value, plus any shipping or taxes or other expenses accrued.
