The number after the dash represents a major engineering change that S & W has made to the revolver. Each major engineering change is represented by a sequentially higher number starting with a -1, etc.

Generally collectors would be interested in the earliest guns without any engineering changes, or guns made for only a very short time with one specific engineering change.

EDIT #1, According to the S & W book the 64-5 engineering change was made between 1988 & 1998. Because of this, not likely to be a big buck collectors item.
