Receiver sight. What is it?

I'm looking at a receiver sight, and would like to know if it will fit my Marlin 336. Is there an expert in the house?

It looks like a Williams sight. Ask the seller what the mounting hole spacing is and maybe access the Williams site and look up their sight for the 336 and compare. Most times the application data is on the box not the sight itself

Williams Foolproof Target. RU stands for Ruger. Willam's website shows sights for 77, 77/22, 10/22, Ruger 44. I "think" it's for a 10/22 or Ruger 44 that requires drilling and tapping.

My first thought was it was for a target base. Then the target bases would be for different rifles.

Seller says it's .415" spread.

Consulting Stroebel's book on sights it "appears" to me that the application code "RU" stands for Ruger - more speciflically for the Ruger Model 44 and .22 caliber carbine, 10-22. Further, it "appears" to me that the sight is most likely a 5D Sight rather than an FP (Foolproof), meaning that it differs from the Williams Fullproof (FP) Sight in that adjustments can be locked-in using a screwdriver to tighten the adjustment screws, whereas the FP sight has internal-locks.
