Shot Loads In A Rifled Barrel

I have a Contender barrel in 45 Colt/ 410 ga., and have shot several buckshot loads and rifled slugs through it. Will this damage the rifling and can shot loads be fired in a rifled muzzleloader without damage? Thanks.

  It won't damage the rifling. The lead shot and slugs are much softer then the steel of the barrel. That is in fact going to be your problem, i.e. lead fouling on the rifling. It tends to build up as the slugs and shot aren't lubricated like a conventional lead bullet.
  
  A tight fitting Bronze bore brush, lead remover solvent, and a lot of elbow grease is needed to remove this lead fouling.

  The Contender 45 Colt/410 barrels have a screw in choke tube, that has straight flutes on it. This is used when shooting shot shells only. It is for stopping the shot from spinning, somewhat.
  
  That screw in choke, MUST be removed when shooting slugs, and 45 Colt ammo, and I would also remove it when shooting buckshot.

  Agree with the guys up there. Shooting shot loads WITHOUT the "unspinner" choke will result in doughnut shaped shot patterns, as the spin opens the pattern to where you have a hole in the middle.

  I hand load my 410's with shot capsules made by T/C and use black podwer sub,like prodex,I also use power pistion type wads and never have leading.the plastic wads and sleeves will clog the choke tubes sometimes.I load for 3 in,2 1/2 and 2in.plus the 44XL.tks hedge
