Sig Saur Mosquito Problem
I just purchased a barely used sig saur mosquito. I have shot Federal and Remmington shells through it. I have as of yet been
able to shoot an entire clip of shells through it wiout some
kind of problem. "Stovepipe",not eject the shot casing,etc. I
changed the springs(comes with an extra spring) and still get
the same results. Since I did not buy it new, I don't see how
I can send it back to the manufacturer
Any ideas on how to
solve the problem? I have shot about 20 clips.

Type Mosquito into the GB search engine and read nearly a full page of what others have attempted to to solve the same problem that you have. Results have been mixed and the problems seem to center on the actual design of the psitol.0 -
The Mosquito's have had a long history of problems. You might give CCI Mini-Mags solids, a try to see if they help with reliability. Be sure the pistol has been well cleaned and lubricated before shooting the CCI's though.
If you still have problems go the the Rimfire Central web site. Their are many posts regarding the Mosquito on that site. Many people have had problems with their Mosquito's and have worked out various fixes for the problems.
The Mosquito is one of the potmetal, ( Zinc diecasting ), wonders made by the German firm of German Sport Guns. I always though they were being sold under false pretenses by being sold under the SIG name. Folks expect SIG quality when buying one, but they sure don't get it.0 -
It may say "SIG" but like many .22 auto pistols, this particular gun can be ammo-picky and not right run out of the box.
This is my suggested algorithm to fix your problem:
1. Strip gun, clean thoroughly, **LUBRICATE** and reassemble. (Lubrication DOES matter).
2. Run at least one brick (500 round) of ammo (any kind) through gun to ensure its properly broken in.
3. Restrip, clean, and lubricate gun (eg repeat step 1).
4. Pick a different brand of ammo and shoot two DIFFERENT magazines of it through the gun (this helps make sure you don't have a magazine problem).
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you find a type of ammo that gives you satisfactory reliability.
6. If you've tried 10-15 different types of ammo, multiple cleanings, and different magazines and the gun still won't cycle reliably, either send it back to SIG for a tuning, or sell it, replacing it with a "real" .22 pistol. (I'd suggest the latter, but its your call).
FWIW, in my experience 40 grain round nose lead bullets tend to cycle auto guns fairly well. CCI "mini mags" usually cycle most guns, and I've also had good luck with the relatively inexpensive Federal "automatch".0 -

make sure recoil spring is in right way, if U reverse it and its tough to tell it will not work properly. Do not use anything but VERY VERY light oil. Use high velocity CCI 0 -
I have a Mosquito. The owners manual specifically tells you to use CCI Mini Mags. If you choose not to then the gun may not run right. You may have to use the other recoil spring provided with the gun along with proper lubrication if you aren't using the correct ammo. Mine functions 100% with CCI Mini Mags and with CCI Velociter's. Make sure the springs are put back in correctly. As others have said these guns are hit & miss which is very sad considering SIG's normal quality. I'm not at all pleased with the accuracy of this gun and am probably going to sell it and get something else.
Sadly with this gun there is no "other brand" of ammo that runs well in it. Don't even waste your time trying other brands. They just do not function. The gun was designed to run with CCI Mini Mags from the factory--the fact that mine also runs with CCI Velociters is just a bonus.0 -
Hey, I had the same problem from a second hand Mosquito. Make sure that there is no burr on the edge of the barrel from being dry fired. That was my problem, filing off the burr and a little bit of chamber polishing fixed it. 0
