Painting Synthetic Stocks
Can anyone recommend someone who can spackle or web-paint stocks such as the patterns done by HS Precision? I know that they will paint/repaint their own brand stocks, but I have a couple of MPI stocks that I would like to have painted in similar patterns.

If you end up doing it yourself, strongly consider using a product called, I believe, Firm Foot. It's an epoxy paint, with a sort of grit added for a non-slip finish, intended for walkways, etc. Forrest Paint Co., IIRC. This is an aerosol product, unbelievably durable, with a flat, textured finish, and their tan color does a respectable dead grass base. 0 -

Most applications of finishes for fiberglass stocks need to be done by those folks who are experienced in order to insure some level of permanence. However, this type of finish is available to us regular folks through the arts & crafts store and online:

We don't use 'spackle' on fiberglass stocks but they can be treated similarly to automotive repairs by using body putty in thin layers. You can build up thickness by using several layers, allowing each layer to dry in between. Sanding is done with wet-n-dry papers. You can check the quality of the patch by spraying the area with a flat primer, looking for blending and even surfaces.
Prep the entire stock by degreasing, hang in a ventilated area and spray with primer. Check sand any noticeable areas and follow with another primer coat. Use your base color with as many coats as necessary to assure good coverage. Finally, read all the directions for the webbing and do a little practicing before applying the final coat of webbing. Remember that this is a one-shot deal and there is no going back without removing everything and starting over. Final coat should be a sealer coat.
It's easier than the description sounds.
