Help on Webley RIC Mk.1 .450CF
Received this solid frame Webley RIC in .450 CF from a widow. Can't find much info anywhere on it. Can anyone tell me more, when it was made, is it anything special, approximate value, etc? The gun is marked Webley's RIC No. 1 450CF with the Webley winged bullet and W&S (hard to see) just above. Top of frame is marked P. Webley & Son Birmingham. There are two proof marks on the rear left of the barrel and on each hole of the cylinder, also on the lower left rear frame next to the handgrip. Serial number is 4 digit 61XX. Functions perfectly and has a brown patina. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Photos can be found here: http://s1190.photobucket.com/albums/z455/griffithair/Webley RIC 450CF/

This Proof Mark resembles the facing Broad Arrows that is placed on British military equipment when it it sold as surplus out of government service. Although their are no other military markings I can see on it, this denotes that it was once used by British military or paramilitary forces, IMHO.
EDIT #1, The bottom half of the crossed scepters of the Birmingham Proof Mark gave the appearance of the Broad Arrow British military proof, given the wear and patina on this RIC.

Rufe, that is the normal Birmingham proofmark, not military broad arrows. You will also see them on the left side of the barrel and on rear outside of cylinder by each chamber.
This is a mid production RIC probably dating from late 1870s.0 -
HRF also noticed that the serial number is on the right hand side, rather than the left side. I would guess this is the result of a new apprentice making a mistake. The "Birmingham", Rather than "London & Birmingham" address indicates a second quality arm sold at a discount. 0
