Norinco 1911

I have been offered a Norinco 1911 in trade. I know very little about them. This is an earlier one without the ambidextrous safety. Anyone have an opinion....value??

    anyone know what a norinco 1911 might be worth ie how much you would espect to buy one for or sell one for? NIB condition

    I like the Norinco 1911 a lot. Mine is solid as a rock and as reliable as the sunrise with ball ammo. I own several 1911's and it compares well with those costing much more. It's not a tack driver but it shoots better than my Remington Rand from WWII. Presently, I've added a Kimber 22 conversion barrel and slide to it and am enjoying it as a an accurate and fun .22 autoloader. I would think that an excellent Norinco 1911 should be worth at least $400-$450.

    I had one of these some time ago when they were first offered for sale. I think mine cost about $350-$375, new.

    They are okay guns, but not what I would call top of the line. Of course one way of looking at it is that many of the "high end" 1911's have problems related to being ammo-sensitive or have some other mechanical problems, most of which are caused by deviation from original design specs. The Norinco gun is a basic gun.

    What is it worth in a trade? Whatever you think you might get for later, in trade or cash, if you got tired of it.

    they have sold on the auction side for $450 -500+ for a clean one
    custom builders are fond of them. they are made from a steel that is generally more used for tools than guns

    Well the metal, from what I've seen, seems very soft. The last one I handled I remember the slide to barrel fit seemed not right. The second barrel lug groove before the chamber seemed too wide and the front of the chamber lug cut out was feathered back. I personally handled 3 in my time. Actually shot one & the front sight blade fell off never to be found again, on the first box of 50 rounds. I believe they where made in China. Someone please correct me if wrong. Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay. I personally would never trade or purchase one because if I wanted one it would have to be free with a warranty.
