S&W revolvers numbers ???

just picked up a smith 51 22mag noticed that there are what looks like serial numbers on the crane are they supposed to match serial number on butt frame? other than crane reads mod-51 and a 27 in a circle thanks FS

  Butt is the SerNo. It should match your receipt/4470.
  
  The other numbers are 'in house' batch/bin/lot numbers (to keep the assembly line 'pure' to the model), and lose most, if not all their significance once the firearm is cleared to ship. Best, Joe

  i have rugers and not up to speed on smiths i noticed the crane number did not match the butt serial number was just wundering
