"New" Remington 1911 - opinions wanted
I'm interested in the "New" Remington 1911 which sells i the $650 range - anybody have any first or second hand experience??? Thanks in advance - HICKORY

My 2?, you would be ahead of the game by figuring out who actually made it for Remington. This would give you a indication of quality and durability.
Lot of folks are using parts made by Armscorp in the PI, and slapping their name on them. Nothing wrong with that. I hear that they are considered quality guns. Just as long you don't go buying a pig in a poke, and then winding up to find you just got a Rock Island .45 with Remingtons name on it, for $200 more then RI charges.0 -

I visited the Remington factory in Ilion, NY and they told me their 1911 is made right there on the premises.0 -

Anything is possible? You sure about them actually making the parts in Ilion, not assembling parts from other manufacturers? They might not want to be to forthcoming about that.
EDIT #1, The Remingtons have been out about a year now. There are a bunch of generally positive reviews on the 1911 Forum, if any of you folks are interested.0 -

Stipulating that this is true, "made" could just mean "assembled".
Where does Remington source its parts from?
Is it forging/casting its own frames, slides, and other parts?
I bet is probably is NOT building everything from scratch. . .you have to be selling a LOT of guns before that makes sense.0 -

Well, based on the information they gave me as well as the fact that the gun is stamped "Made in USA", and the absence of a personal tour of their foundry and assembly facilities, I'll accept their claim that it is American made.0 -
Well, I wondered also..My FFL inquired to Remington and was told that they are made in USA by Remington......cause I am really considering one also....Any more info I would gladly read also,,shooting made or,,,I am curious as OLD HICKORY is. 0 -
I almost got one till Ruger annouced theirs now I hoping to get a side by side comparsion before I make up my mind 0 -
The Kahr/Auto Ordnance ones are claimed to be 100% USA made.
I have had 2, they were good guns.
I only traded them becuase I got 2 COLTS, but they were good solid guns for the $$$.
With all the probs Remington has been having lately with QC, I'd give the A/O a hard look.

I understand these are mostly a copy of the Colt 'Series 80'?
Anyone have any thoughts on that?0
