Winchester Model 12 Shell Cutoff Problem

Winchester model 12, 12 ga, prewar. The cartridge cutoff is not seated in the place it should be (jammed). How common is this problem?
This is the second one this month.

  i have found it common when someone takes it apart and does not get it back in the recess. it is an easy fix.

  also... sorry about not saying this first, the part could be worn. a new one mite fix the problem.

  To replace the cartridge cutoff: remove the trigger guard assembly.
  Is the new part a "drop in" or doe it have to be fitted?

  i have had it both ways. count on it needing to be fit.
