unknown gun
I've got an old shotgun, and I know almost nothing about it. It's a single shot 20 gauge that my old man refinished at least 20 years ago. It has a serial #, but no maker, model, etc. on it. We can't find any other marke or numbers on it (other than full choke). Is there any way to figure out whose it is? Thanks.

Several years ago my Dad purchased a gun that we cannot identify. There are no markings on the gun and he does not even know what type of ammunition the gun shoots...the only other time we have seen the sane type of gun is one hanging in an old saloon(the Number Ten)in Deadwood SD...it was surrounded by pictures of well known Indians of the old west..how do we go about trying to identify the gun when we don't even know the manufactor. 0 -

EDIT #1, It's a former British Army Rifle known as a short magazine Lee Enfield. It was sold surplus out of government stores and reproved with commercial Proof Marks. Can't tell if it's been sporterized or not because you didn't include full length photos. They were made in great quantity over the years. Lot of them show up on the auctions. You can get a ballpark value by seeing what they are actually selling for on them.0 -

What you have is a Lee Enfield British 303 SMLE rifle. Good flat shooting rifle. Ammo is cheap so enjoy it. The last one I bought was about a year ago and it cost me $150.00. Best 0 -
Ok, I'm a novice at this stuff but I do know & admire & appreciate 'weird' stuff when I see it. That is one interesting action on that girl.

Can't really tell from pics, but stock appears to have been sporterized. Here's what they look like before fooling with them: http://www.surplusrifle.com/smle/index.asp This was the standard rifle of the British Empire from 1907 to about 1943, and there were millions of them made. Fastest cycling bolt action made for military use (straight pull rifles like the K-31 are in a different class) The metal band at the wrist may have the date of manufacture on the RIGHT side, and initials of who was King or Queen at that time.
