Its a factory installed donut post simmons rib I believe, 1958.

Is there an offset proof mark on the barrel too, like this?

Simmons did install some of their ribs for winchester, and the proof marks were offset at the winchester factory to allow for the rib, but Winchester did not stamp a choke on the barrel.

I also think that Winchester quit stamping the proof mark on the reciever, but I dont know when for sure. Let me do some reading tonight and get back with you.

Nope... not the case. All Winchester Model 12s were proof mark stamped. The Choke was also stamped on all barrels except when an adjustable choke (Cutts Compensator, Polychoke, etc.) was factory installed.

So you are saying that all Pre 64 Winchester model 12's were proof stamped on the top of reciever?.... And Winchester stamped the choke on guns that were sold to simmons for ribs and chokes?

If so I guess I dont need to do any reading tonight.
