Winchester Gun Safes
I'm in the market for a new gun safe and have the opportunity to buy a used Winchester Silverado for a very reasonable price. Specs look pretty good but I was wondering if anyone had experience with this make and model? Who makes these safes for Winchester? Any thoughts on quality or operation? Thanks.

After extensive research I settled on the Winchester safe. It's made by Granite Security Co. in Ft. Worth TX. I was able to find the Western 21 Model which is the one I wanted, it's a model design between the Ranger & Silverado Series that was discontinued in 2010. A bit heavier than the Ranger but only slightly lighter than the Silverado & about 2" smaller. My gut is that it's so similar to the Silverado it was discontinued for 2011 because they could sell the Silverado for much more than the Western was priced.
Anyway, it has 12 - 1 1/4" locking bars, more than many other brands in that price range, by completing a pre-drilled hole in the back a humidifier can be installed, (I use a battery operated one), and it even comes with the lag bolts to bolt it to a floor if you want to. It's fire rated for 60 minutes and has a patented fire/ heat seal. I like the fast digital combo that has a audio beep and a low batt. warning light, the combo is really easy to change too. I also like the look of a 5 spoke handle. The interior shelving is easy to arrange for your own needs and the inside is well padded with carpeting. At just over 600 lbs. it took me & 2 of my sons to get it to a 1st floor location. I took the precaution of supporting the joists under the floor just in case, so consider the weight when you locate yours, I have 24 rifles in mine so that's about 150 or so added lbs.
For me The Winchester Safes are a great value, I don't think you'd go wrong, but shop around, I found prices all over the place for the same model, and watch out for a hidden delivery charge by some dealers.

If you have a Sam's club nearby, check them out around early fall, they usually have the Winchester safes or can at least order one for you. 0 -
I'm getting a Winchester safe tomorrow. Not sure of the model name but it holds 28 long guns. Looks like a good safe for the money. Do you think it's okay to put it in a spare bedroom on an outside wall, or is the weight going to be a problem? 0 -
IMO, you have to think carefully about how the floor is supported under the location of this safe in your bedroom, if your on an upper floor, that 1000lbs. or so my be too heavy a load to stand in one location for a long period of time, same goes for a ground level location unless it's in a corner with the floor joists resting on your foundation. As I mentioned, mine is in a corner on a 1st floor room, the joists rest on the foundation but I still took the precaution to reinforce the joists in the crawl space.
