Spencer Shotgun
I recently acquired a Spencer Gun Co. 12ga Single shot shotgun. I have searched everywhere and can't seem to find any information. It has no markings on the gun other than the company name and it says full choke on top of the barrel. It has a steel barrel and it is 30 inches. I would also like to know about how much it is worth. If someone could help I would greatly appreciate it.

As we have no idea as to condition of yours, these are quite common and values range from $10 to a rusty wallhanger to $150 for a mint condition specimen.0 -
My reference shows Spencer Gun Company to be a Trade Name used by Hibbard, Bartlett & Spencer Co. of Chicago IL. These guns were made for HB & S by various manufacturers in the early 20th Century. HB & S were a large wholesale hardware distributor active in the Midwest until the early 1930's.
Single barrel shotguns sold by HB & S were inexpensive utility guns, that don't have a lot of collectors value now.0 -
SPENCER GUN COor SPENCER & CO. Two names, same maker and same seller. Both are "Trade Brand Name" shotguns. A "Trade Brand Name" shotgun is one that was made by a major maker (and before 1940) for and were sold by a wholesaler or retailer who chose the name to go on the gun. Guns with either name were made by the Crescent Fire Arms Company of Norwich, CT (1892 to 1931) for and were sold at wholesale by the Hibbard Spencer Bartlett Company of Chicago, IL a wholesale sporting goods dealer. Post the serial number (located on the bottom tang just behind the trigger) on the gun and we can tell you when it was made. 0 -
