HELP NEED INFO ON SERI # PROD DATES MARLIN 39A'S

In 1966 [October, Korea] I bought at an Army PX a Marlin Golden 39 A..$60. I got it back from Army Storage in 1969 when discharged.. 10yrs into the future I sold it for $150 and regretted it ever since .

While at gun show the man who bought it saw me and told me about it and asked if I want to buy it back...

I SAID HELL YES....

I remember it was a 4 digit serial number. He has a couple oldie 39A's but is not sure which one it might be now...almost 30yrs later.

If anyone can help with a serial number series during or for 1966 it would be not only a blessing but a great help...

  According to the Blue Book, Marlin used letter prefix's for their serial numbers during the dates in question, i.e. the letters changed for each year.

  1965 is AA
  1966 is AB

  Got my old Marlin 39A back today...and it is a gorgeous...serial numbers match 1966 production date and it is a 4 digit number. In just a few minutes I am going to my garage, I've got a boot on a stick that swing's and I am gonna kick my own ass for letting this bit of my history go for a paltry sum of $150...
  
  Even after all these yrs .... maybe one brick has been fired thru the rifle...
  
  But now my 39A is back and BACK it stays....
  
  Getting this back was a freak accident or maybe it was fate, i don't know but I just wish I could share this elation on a much broader scale...I am just giddy this Marlin is back home...
