what would i have to do to get an antique shotgun from england.

  Unless the state that you live in says otherwise (and some in fact do) antiques are not firearms, they are simply ornaments and unregulated. Pay the guy in England his money, have him put it in a box and then ship it to you. He will probably need an export permit but that is his issue. The gun will also have to clear US Customs so be darned sure that it is in fact an antique and you can prove it.

  And to add to what Mark said- ANTIQUE has a legal definition in the US, and not all countries use the same definition. Here it means a muzzleloader, OR a gun made prior to 1 Jan 1899. Can you show this gun meets either of those criteria? Old does not mean antique.

  This is the official definition of an Antique firearm:
  
  Title 18, Section 921(a)(16) then defines "antique firearm" as follows:
  
  
  
  
  "The term 'antique firearm' means -
  (A) any firearm (including any firearm with a matchlock, flintlock, percussion cap, or similar type of ignition system) manufactured in or before 1898; and
  (B) any replica of any firearm described in subparagraph (A) if such replica -
  (i) is not designed or redesigned for using rimfire or conventional centerfire fixed ammunition, or
  (ii) uses rimfire or conventional centerfire fixed ammunition which is no longer manufactured in the United States and which is not readily available in the ordinary channels of commercial trade."
  
  
  As is the case for importing AYTHING into the United States; the burden of proof is on the importer (the person bringing the item into the country) to prove that it is legal and complies with federal regulations. In the case of some rare, obscure or custom made firearm (especially those made overseas) this can be difficult to prove. Make sure that you have all of your documentation air-tight because if the gun can't clear US Customs it either has to be re exported (don't count on the guy from England giving you your money back) or it is forfeited.
