Help please, M1911A1 (pics)
So my buddy and I pieced this 1911 together, but we are having some problems. I have stoned the ramps, changed recoil springs, weight wise, trade out the extractor, and still have the spent casings come out all mangled on the end, and some get caught in the slide. What am I doing wrong or over looking? Thanks for your help in advance.

If you are getting stovepipes like in the pictures your slide is moving too fast. What weight recoil springs have you tried [?]
What ammo are you using [?]
You might need a extended ejector to get the brass out quicker.0 -

I started out with a 15 pounder and worked my way down to a 9 pounder. Even with the heavier spring, the cases were still coming out bent on the end.0 -
Get a extended ejector from Brownells. Since you changed everything else out, what you got to loose. It ejects the fired brass out earlier in the recoil cycle, so hopefully it won't smokestack or mangle the brass. The aftermarket ejectors that Brownells sells are hardened steel and are a slip fit on a lot 1911 frames. This means you won't need a retaining pin, the slide keep it in place. 0 -

Try a 18LB spring [;)] If there is still troubles, change the ejector.0 -

HAVE YOUtunedthe EXTRACTOR if the Extractor is too loose it will drop the fired cartridge case BEFORE it gets to the nose of the ejector and just drops down instead of going out the ejection port . Take the slide off the frame then remove barrel turn slide upside down and take a loaded round and slide cartridge against breach face and under extractor hook. Now turn slide right side up if cartridge falls out then Extractor does NOT have enough tension. 0 -

I have changed out the extractor, but will do your little test to comfirm I have a good one. Thanks.0
