1885 Winchesters
Two questions: Is there an accessible list of "official" calibers that WINCHESTER made high-walls in? Is 45-70 one of them?
Second question: Local guy has a low-wall with a .22 rim fire barrel on it stamped HM POPE. If it's a "real" Harry Pope barrel does that add value or detract because it's not "original"?? Guy wants $2200 for the Low wall. Bore OK, not perfect, finish around 60~70 % Worth it??

"H.M. Pope" only is how he marked his barrels from Jersey City.
On the underside of the barrel there should be his barrel number, twist rate and date if this is a Pope barrel. If you can post these it would help.
If the barrel is not perfect it's not worth investing anything in IMO.0 -
I have a listing of all the cartridges/calibers the Model 1885 was ever made in, and yes, the 45-70 was one of them. Winchester made a total of approximately 3,100 Model 1885s in 45-70.
If the barrel is an authentic H.M. Pope barrel, it will typically add value to the rifle. However, with a less than excellent bore, it loses value. $2200 sound a bit steep.0
