h&r sportsman DAO?

I picked up an H&R sportsman "double action", SN 52097 today that I got on gunbroker.

There seem to be a few problems with the gun and I had a few questions. Help is appreciated as I want to make sure I'm being fair to the seller.

1) the gun was not advertized as DAO. I thought all Sportsman revolvers were double and single action except for the few marked "single action" on the barrel?

2) the top sight "lock" doesn't come down all the way, so the revolver does not lock. This is clearly a flaw in the gun that should have been described and wasn't. Is there an easy way to fix this?

3) The pin in the gun right above the trigger is basically free-floating and "slops" side to side.

4) any idea of date of manufacture from the SN?

aside from that, it's a great gun ;-)

  I looked at one that the owner claimed was DAO. Turned out that the single action notch was worn so badly that it wouldn't catch. I own a single action only Sportsman. Double action only makes no sense in a .22 utility handgun, but single action only isn't a handicap. I would suspect the gun you bought is damaged or worn. Regardless, I would return the gun since the seller didn't disclose the single action function was defective, plus it has other issues. Doesn't sound too "great" to me.

  see my response to your e-mail contact. Something wrong is right...vendor needs to explain himself. Too many guys out there who don't know much about their products make up for that lack of knowledge through bloviation.
