Ruger 1022 Bolt release

I have a Ruger 1022 that the bolt will not release on. I broke it down and cleaned it, but It still won't release. Anyone run into this problem, and if so, how'd you fix it?

  I replaced the factory stock bolt release with an aftermarket one that allowed a more normal release of the bolt by just retracting the bolt a fraction of an inch and releasing, similar to the way you release the bolt on a 1911. No more wrestling with that abortion-of-a-design original bolt switch that some sadist at Ruger invented. [:D]

  What do you mean it will not release?
  
  Are you pushing the release while pulling back on the bolt?
  
  As the other poster said you can buy an "auto" bolt release where by pulling back on the bolt only it will release. Or you can do the simple mod yourself.

  I have owned one of these for 30 years and just learned it had a bolt hold open/ release.
  I saw a article on how to make it automatic.
  
  Is your loose, does it move? It just tilts back and up.
  Hold the bolt back and try it.
  If its tight, tear it down again something is binding on it.
  
  Youtube has videos if necessary.
  But this is a great forum, you can learn more than you ever wanted to know.

  Do you have a link, or advice, on modifying the factory release?
  Never really had a problem with it as is, but am interested. A simple "pull back" on the bolt handle would sure make sense.

  Take your release out, you'll see an almost heart shaped cut out - this is what controls the release. Take a file/dremel/whatever to it and round out the top - not flat, not too rounded, but rounded some.

  Thanks guys, I removed the release and filed down a rough spot and it seems to be working fine. I ordered a modified one along with a new, composite, bolt stop. I'd been having problems with constantly re-zeroing my scope and hope that a little less jarring during the cycling of the bolt might reduce the frequency.
