H&R 632

The H&R 632 appears to come in two models marked .32 S&W and .32 S&W Long. However, Numrich only lists a single cylinder for this pistol. Does anyone know if an H&R 632 labled for .32 S&W would chamber and fire a .32 S&W Long cartridge? Or is the cylinder stepped to prevent the longer cartidge?. If it does fire both cartidges, and it seems to me that it might, why would H&R not lable their guns accordingly?

I have an H&R 632 serial # N2049 my question is why is the notch on the striker plate too small to use for loading. It appears to be for loading but would only allow a 22 cal and not a 32 cal cartridge to fit. Could this pistol have originally been a 22cal and someone refitted it with a 32 barrel and cylinder? 0 -
The "32" in the model designation is the caliber so your gun has always been a 32.
I always thought that feature on the H&R revolvers weird.0 -
That feature appears to be a carry-over from much earlier days. H&R referred to them as an "inspection notch" - they were made too small to allow the cartridge to fall out and too small to allow a cartridge to "fall" in. That feature continued on through at least 1980 but by 1983, is not evident (evidenced by pieces in my collection).
BTW the 'N' serial number prefix indicates production of your piece in 1953, 2nd year of production of that model and coincidental with the offering of the new grip frame design of 1952.0
