Colt Ser 70 MK IV
I friend of mine would like me to order him night sites for his Colt Ser 70 MK IV S/S but I am unsure which front site to order. There are two (2) sizes listed in the catalog.
Alittle help from someone who is more familuar with them than I would be greatly apperaciated.
Thanks,
Jim

If none of our folks can help, you might consider calling the customer service folks at Brownells. 0 -
BE aware that the front sight needs to be STAKED into the slide. You need to be VERY careful You can very easily RUIN the night sight. I have been working on 1911 Sights for 40+ years I would not attempt installing night sights. Unless I used a dovetail cutter on the slide and mounted that type of sight never a staked sight. 0 -
I've staked many of those sights on the colts, but I have the $300 tool to do it without damaging the sight. Suggest you look up a 'smith in your area that has the tool or go with a dovetail install as already mentioned. 0 -
Generally, replacement sights are ordered as a set, so that you can be sure that they are matched. Your friend should take the slide to his gunsmith & let the gunsmith order the parts & install them.
I recommend against the installation of any sights on this gun; resale value will take a dramatic hit. Original sights for this gun will be difficult or impossible to find, so there will be no going back. Although the rear sight can be reused, the front cannot.
Plus, night sights have a half life of 11 years, so your friend will need to replace them every 10-15 years.

I agree about not altering an original Colt.
Suggest Laser grips ; no alteration that can not be reversed.
Besides, the laser makes a great cat toy!!0 -

Thanks all. Yes the lasers are GREAT cat toys!! I have installed MANY dovetail night sites, but none on the Colts. I was aware of the need to 'stake' them. I am aware of the half life (twelve years) of the tritium gas used in the night sites. I was not sure what size the hole in the slide is on this gun (there are two different sizes). He has already cumstomized it with several add ons but no mods which could not be removed.0
