Re-Parkerization Impact of 1911A1 Value?

I purchased a Remington Rand M1911A1 (1944 issue SN 176****) that I believe to be 100% original. This 1911 spent most of the time in a closet since the owner retired from the Air Force in 1953. The thing that concerned me is that it was re-Parkerized in 1987.

What does that do to the value, theoretically, to any 1911A1? Does it turn a collector in to a shooter? It came with orignal magazines and US issue holster. I paid $550.

    Because some markings were done after the original Parkerzation a Knowledgeable collector will know if it is a refinish. If it was done OUT SIDE of a military arsenal this will really hurt the collector value. If on the other hand it is a military rebuild and so marked . It will hurt but not near as much.

    Privately owned since 1953, and re-parked in 1987? That's an outside job done within the private sector.

    Take it out and shoot it. Enjoy it.

    You will not be reducing its value* by shooting it. That $550.00 seems quite 'in there' for a gun as you've just described.

    You did good. Shoot it, and, good chance you'll be able to get the same $550.00 back when and if you decide to sell it.

    I recommend that you insert the photos inside a post you've already made (using the edit function-the little pencil symbol on top of the post). Stack the photos vertically by hitting the return key' on your keyboard after each photo has been placed in you post. Best, Joe

    There are several service-trained armorers who can apply a manganese phosphate finish that appears identical to that applied by them while they served in Ordnance.

    If your pistol is in 99% or better condition, & has an original blued barrel, I would expect it to sell for close to $1,000. With all original finish, it would sell for close to $1,800.

    The "most original" mags would be blue mags with G (General Shaver, a division of Remington Rand) stamped on the toe.

    EDIT: A mag with R stamped on the toe was made by Risdon manufacturing, a WW2 contract supplier. It would be correct for your pistol. If yours was an original finish pistol, you would probably want to get one of the "most correct" G-marked mags.

    As for price, current GB auctions show that parked 1911A1's that have been mutilated, buffed, & BLUED are selling in the $800 range

    When I mentioned 100% original I was referring to no parts being replaced. Thanks for correcting me! I'd say 100% outside of the re-finishing.

    You NEED to learn how to EDIT your first post.

    In the middle at the top of all of your posts are 5 icons...one is a piece of paper with a pencil. If you want to add to the post, click that, and it will bring it back up so you can add to it. I usually put "EDIT" #, where # is the number of the edit.
