257 wea w/spitzer bullet
can anyone give an opinion on the less expensive-lower velocity(3500vs3600fps)100gr 257wea w/spitzer bullet ammo vs other weatherby ammo?

They will work for medium sized game with the proper shot placement. That means BEHIND the shoulder, not on the shoulder. A hit on heavy bone would make that bullet fragment, and have a good chance of NOT penetrating to the vitals, and leaving the animal severely wounded to die a slow lingering death.

If you're referencing the "economy" ammo made by Norma, I used that ammo to take 3 whitetail does last November. My initial post about bullet performance indicated the bullets might be fairly stiff and provided full penetration on the moderate sized deer. During butchering, I found much more damage than originally expected. I didn't encounter bullet breakup on any of the shots in the 200-250 yard range including one that hit the spine before passing through the offside shoulder. I would not hesitate to use this ammo on deer but there are better bullets for use on heavier game. 0
