Bert,Winchester made a few model 37's with rifle barrels. They were going to call it a Model 38 but it never went into production. The barrels were marked Model 37 and the hammer(cocking lever)was removed and a slide safety took it's place. Can't remember caliber right now and can't seem to run a 90 day look back on GB(did they change their software?)It will still be out there, less than 90 days.I had a chance to buy it privately and am still kicking myself! And of course there is the 37 Bridger line gun in 45-70.If you can find that 37-38 please shoot me a GB number. 0 -

I disagree... the Model 38 (as listed in the historical records) was authorized on November 18th, 1936. It was designed to be a hammerless version of the Model 37, and only a few experimental guns were produced before it was cancelled. They were not made with rifled barrels. The Model 37 Line Throwing Guns were made in 45-70 smooth bore. Keep in mind that I have access to the orignal Winchester records.0 -
Bert, thanks for setting the record straight. So much for second hand information. 0 -
Winchester never made a 37 with a rifle barrel, but Cooey in Canada who made the 37A's for winchester made some samples built on the 37A that were chambered for 22 Hornet. I know because I've seen and handled one belonging to a friend 0 -

Bert, this is starting to get interesting.I have to get in touch with my friend and track that 37 or 37A down.Maybe I confused 37A with 38 because I believe my friend had them both.I will get to the bottom of this.
Great... and I agree, it could be quite interesting[^]0 -
Bert, if DOKEY says its true,it's true. I know the guy. 0 -

I am not doubting him, or that Cooey may have made a few Model 37A's with a rifled barrel. That stated, the original question was in regards to a Model 37 (which is a different gun).0 -
Bert,understand,yes we got a little off track,but interesting,like you say,the 37 is a whole different animal from 37A. 0
