In Image 0635 the rear portion of the barrel appears to be split. I'm not familiar with 42's. I have a Model 12 that is a earlier take down version, that is the barrel could be separated from the receiver. If your 42 is similar, perhaps it would be possible to obtain a replacement barrel?

Your Model 42 is correct. The barrel threads are exposed in a small area of the receiver extension.

I just broke down this inherited gun for the first time and it does not look right. On the bottom right side of the barrel there is something that looks like damage to me. Could someone confirm this for me?

In photo 0635 am I seeing a split down the barrel? If it looks like damage to you, than its probably damage. YouR photos will not let me copy so if you could take a better close up photo of 0635 we can most likely confirm damage. What ever you do DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FIRE THIS GUN! ....The damage is in an area that could explode causing you severe bodily injury or death.

No there is no split in the barrel. I see what you mean in the picture but I examined with a magnifying glass and don't see anything more than wear from the pump action. I was referring to picture # 0688 which comes up first with the link. On the bottom outside of the barrel the hole looks a little jagged. Since this is not my shotgun but my girlfriend's I was unsure if it supposed to look like that or not.
