The 559 should be a blue steel slide assembly over a black anodized lower. The 659 was the stainless version. There were nickle finished 559s as well. The generation was short as the 590_ series was quickly issued. This was during S&W's "issue a new model every week" period. The 59 & 559/659 series had a rather akward grip and was not well liked, even though it was among the original wonder-nines. Check the auction side to see what they are selling for. There were a very few that were custom shop modified into the 6509 form for use as beta-units for demo to law enforcement. These have the grip frame and slip-on grips of the 5900 series, but the frame says 659.

One sold for $575 on another gun auction site.

There is another one like new in the box for the same price.

    S&W made 3,750 from 1980-83.

Yours for a quick sale should bring about $450. More if you have the box and papers and tool kit.
