bought a new in box sereal numbered ar stripped lower at a garage sale
would it be legal to make a pistol out of it, thanks

  I'm looking to buy an AR 15. Don't know allot about this type of rifle so here is the question.
  When advertising lowers for sale, some times sellers will say "multi caliber" Does this mean that all lowers are capable of shooting all calibers offered in to rifle? Will all upper calibers work on the same lower?

  Any lower will shoot any caliber provided you can find the rest of the parts. The standard kits generally come in 5.56, 6.8 SPC, 9 mm, 22 LR, 7.62x39, 5.45x39 and probably a few others I can't remember.
  
  The actual markings on the receiver have nothing to do with the performance of the final product. Some people, me included, like the multi marking when building "off" caliber rifles.

  Aside from that, the answers to your questions, are yes, and yes!
  
  The AR-15 lower's can be considered to be "universal", to the AR-15 upper's. They will function with all upper's...and let me tell you, that the selections, and options for upper's are endless. You can have blow back for a 22LR, gas piston center fire, or direct gas impingement for operation. You can get just about any 223 Remington length cartridge for a chambering, including a whole host of wildcats based on the WSSM family.

  Lets not forget about the new 300 OSSM by Olympic Arms...on the WSSM style case in 30 cal. With a 24 inch barrel it is supposed to be all of a 30-06 in performance.

  As stated they are just marked "multi" vs caliber specific, there is no physical difference assuming it is a "standard" AR-15 lower. There are also special lowers that are built to take non standard mags. An example of this is an Olympic Arms lower that is built to take Glock mags.
