Can A 38 Super Auto be fired in a S&W 66 357 is the pressure to much?

Thinking about getting a 1911 in .38 Super. How does it compare ballistically with the .357 mag? Good personal defense round?[?] 0 -
The Windicater is a revolver chambered for the .357 magnum cartridge. It will chamber and safely fire any .38 Special and .357 magnum revolver cartridges. Leave it at that, .38 Special ammo is much cheaper and easily obtained then .38 Super pistol ammo. 0 -
That and the fact that there is no/insufficient rim (the Super is a semi-rim...the 38 Super Comp and other variants ARE rimless)on the 38 super to grasp the ejector assembly (not even sure if moon clips would work...tempted to say no but it might be doable)makes this a dubious application I believe. Additionally, as I recall, the early 38 Super was loaded with .356 diameter projectiles so that might cause less than spectacular accuracy. As Rufe stated, you should probably stick to 38 Special or 357 Mag in a gun so chambered. Chances are really good you will not find ANY 38 Super (or variant)cheaper than even mid level 357, and the performance would be lowered to the point of lead head 38 Specials (perhaps a little hotter) pretty much so negating the purpose. The .38 Super has a larger case diameter than .357 and a semirim.
If your EAA has chambers on the large side of manufacturing tolerance and your Super ammo on the small, it will go in and probably fire, if you have good firing pin protrusion.
Combination of the snug fit and semirim may then leave you with cases stuck in the chambers.

I have seen 38 Super fired in a GP100, a Taurus 85 and a Rossi 97; Don't do it.
Unless you really enjoy picking the brass out of a really tight space.
Accuracy was so-so at 50 yds.
I'm still of the mindset that only an IDIOT fires a cartridge designed for another gun in whatever he might have lying around.0 -
