Possible AR 15 Build Questions

I have always wanted a ar15 platform since using while in service (1978-1981), but price and a C&R Licences always got in the way,lol. Found a stripped lower at a yard sale marked STINGER ARMS. All I can find out about this is it was out of Texas. Also got a BCG but the gas key is missing a screw and the other is loose. I paid $5.00 for both so don't feel like I've lost anything. Thought I'd buy a complete upper in 20" A2 configuration. Questions:
1) Does anyone know of this lower and is it worth building on?
2) What is a good lower kit?
3) What would be a good upper? Looking to maybe build an A2 type w/ iron sights. I won a couple of battalion shoots in service w/ the M16A2 so kinda waana recapture those glory years.

    For $5 how could you possibly go wrong. GOOGLE is your friend. If none of our folks comes up with anything, GOOGLE various searches based on "Stinger Arms AR 15", or something similar.

    Thanks rufe-snow. Only thing GOOGLE could tell me was that someone had one and someone else heard of them but couldn't remember what he'd heard.

    Stinger Arms used MMS receivers so that should be good to go. As far as I can remember MMS made all of their receivers for them. You can probably get a DPMS lower parts kit for the least money. Check on GB auctions and midway for prices.

    You can also get the buffer tube and stock etc. at the same places. With out looking at your BCG I beleive you would be well served to buy at least a new bolt and gas rings. If the carrier looks good and it or gas key is not damaged you can also get new screws from midway, etc. Hope this helps and have fun.

    One last question. Is a 01FFL required in the shipping of a complete upper?

    An upper is just parts and does not require an FFL of any type. You can buy complete uppers from Colt.

    Screws for the gas key are cheap and once screwed in can be staked to ensure they won't move so fixing the BCG is easy.

    The biggest problem regarding "what to get" is there is so much to choose from. DPMS and Rock River make a good basic LPK & you can get them from Midway or Brownells. The one thing I always buy is a RRA 2 stage trigger from these guys: http://www.ar15sales.com/index.htm because for $89.00 I get a very good 2 stage trigger that fits nearly all AR 15 & AR 10 type lowers.

    So far as uppers to buy, so long as you're going to be the casual plinker type I think any of the major sellers are fine. High end ompanies like LaRue & Noveske sell a great product and if you buy one you'll be happy, but if the question is "what's 'good enough'?" then DSA, DPMS, RRA are fine, even less expensive sellers like Model 1 and Delton generally turn out an OK product - so you can go from great to good to OK.

    If the BCG has been run with the screws loose, it's likely they won't ever stay tight. That judgement should be made prior to wasting time on resetting the screws. You might be just as well off to buy a complete upper which includes the BCG.
