Rem 11-48 why only 2 rounds
Would it be possible to fit a Rem 1100 12ga mag tube on a 11-48 12ga to get the round count up a little?? I have heard that Rem modified the mag tube on a 11-48 to only accept 2 rounds for hunting law complience. I would like to get on and make it a semi auto, get out of town gun, drive and shoot at the same time. These are at time fairly inexpensive, usually dinged up pretty good from age and wouldn't mind hacking it to legal length and trying other ideas on it. Besides if someone steals it no big money lose either.

I think you are reffering to the "dimples" that are impressed into the mag tube, and these of course restrict the follower from travelling further up the tube. As an aside, make sure you check your local and state laws...some are pretty weird regarding this stuff, right or wrong. Anyway, you can either drill those out or use a Dremel to make an oblong hole as opposed to a round one...this is better as it removes less metal. I have seen a few people try to "iron" them out using a dowel rod and a small hammer, but all of those I looked at looked pretty awful. Once you have those dimples out of there, you can use a Nordic Components (lots of others out there too, I just like their stuff best)extension tube and bring the round count up to about whatever you feel is appropriate. I have an 870 I just built into an 11 shot monster, and it has 4 more in the Speedfeed stock, and a 4 round saddle on the left side. If 19 rounds of 12 ga Buck and slugs don't get it done, I was probably screwed to begin with! 0 -
The 11-48 Sportsman has the tube indented to limit it to 2+1.
The standard model holds 4+1 like most other Remingtons. I bet it has the same magazine tube cap threads as other Remingtons so you could put an extension on it if 5 is not enough.0 -
Don't know much about the 11-48's but I was told that mine was ex-State police, it holds 7 rounds (including one in the chamber), not sure if the tube extension is availible as a aftermarket item or if it can be used on later 11-48's
