223 Question

Anyone know of a good bolt or single shot 223 with a 1 in 7 twist rate? Looking for something that will stabilize the heavier grain loads. Help if you can. The savage ABT-12 looks good but i am unsure the twist rate.

  Thompson Center Contender or Encore with a barrel made by Match Grade Machine - get whatever twist you like.

  Most commercial bolt action, or single shot sporting rifles have a 1 in 12 twist. However, Savage Arms offers several rifles, with a 1 in 9, and a few with a 1 in 7. The ones with a 1 in 7 are their Varmint, and Target(F/TR) series. I just looked it up, and that is really nice to know.
  
  The 1 in 9 will get you up to around 70 grains.

  The Remington 700 XCR and SPS and VTR all have a 1/9 twist rate.

  I'd go with the Savage as mentioned earlier.
