Newly aquired Venezuelan FN-49 *Pics added 5-16-11

GB forum Greenhorn. Have been searching info/details on this rifle for sometime, but am always curious for more. Have some knowledge on variations from contracts to contracts and have seen where certain models are more desireable than others. Have been trying to get as much info on markings as possible, but have a stamped marking in the stock just forward of the magazine housing.
Would send pics, but not sure how. Just curious about value/condition/etc. Will add pics as soon I can.

    I sold a Venezuean FN49 sniper for 1500.00 about 4yrs ago,bought it back for same last year it dint have scope but had rail.traded it for a model 70 win in 223.I still have some Items bayo, striper, and gernade launcher for it.cound never find a scope for it.tks hedge[:D]

    I have an Egyptian FN 49 in 8mm I bought a couple years ago at auction, its a nice shooter. I would like to get a Luxemburg model made in 30-06. There were not many, about 6500, of them made so prices are high.

    The Venezuelan 7mm's are one of the more common variations of the FN 49. Many were brought in and sold on the surplus market during the 60's/70's time frame. I remember the long running add's in SN from back then. Many were in Very Good +, to excellent condition. Of course over the span of 30+ years they have dried up and the really nice ones bring top dollar from military rifle collectors, when they infrequently show on the market.


    EDIT #1, This is the stock marking on the Venezuelan FN 49, that the originator of this topic wants to have identified, if possible.

    Thanks for the replies/lead(hedge)on extras. Any insight on contract details, such as #/ratio of rifles that were sniper, grenade launchers, etc.? And were serial numbers specific to each type? Have been thinking about buying (new/used) the "FN-49 The Last Elegant Old-World Military Rifle" to save time/effort, but beginning to like the forum aspect.
    Didn't finish the "Have been trying to get as much info on markings as possible, but have a stamped marking in the stock just forward of the magazine housing." details/question portion. Haven't seen this marking on other pics I've seen. It has 1 or 2 script letters in a circle. Read the photo posting details (Thanks, nonsense) and have posting host set up, but need to install new camera download software CD.
    Actually have two of these Ven. rifles. One with lower serial # has # stamped into stock, second does not.
    Any re-build telltale signs to look for? Both are in really good shape, but second doesn't seem to have seen much use.
    Know pics are needed for accurate assessment/replies, just wanted to make sure pics were useful and not "glamour shots". Hopefully have some posted in a day/two.

    Out of 176,000 FN-49s produced, over 125,000 were in 30-06.

    3. .30 M2 (.30-06) 125,072 produced for Belgium, Belgian Congo, Luxembourg, Indonesia (Dutch East Indies), Columbia, and Brazil
    4. 7.5mm 1 produced for testing
    5. 7.62mm 1 produced for testing
    6. 7.65mm 5,541 produced for Argentina
    7. 7.92mm (8mm Mauser) 37,641 produced for Egypt and British testing


    I have one of the Luxembourg models in 30-06, and it is a great shooting battle rifle. He is fourth from the left in the photo below.

    Sharp edges, clean wood, nery little blue loss, original compensator...all in all looks really nice, around 90%. As a quick guestimate, around $900. The proof mark you see is an FN firing proof if I recall corectly.

    Have been keeping an eye on other listings that are higher, but seems like they're not getting their asking price. Haven't made up my mind if I'm interested in selling yet.
    Also have acquired several other guns (old police positive/9MM Belgium Browning/.22 semi-auto Colts/Winchester pumps) that I'll be posting about later.
    Just wish I would have taken typing back in HS. Would be paying off about now!!!
    Not sure if it's best to post them individually or together. Thinking separately would be the best.
