National Park Concealed Carry
Does anyone know if the Park Service has changed their Policy on CC? I live in WV and we have to cross the New River Gorge Park area to get to our camp. I have heard that a CC permit is no good in Park areas and your gun can be taken and you fined. Thanks.

Since you don't seem to have a clue to the answer to your question, I have to assume you are not active in helping with the gun rights battles or you would already have the information you seek.
Our new right to carry concealed in federal parks did not just fall out of the sky. Instead, some gun owners had to spend time, money and effort to get the law changed. You should volunteer to help them sometime.
Climb off your soap box in this forum Mr. Fox. The man simply asked a question about carrying in a National park, there is no cause to question his stand on gun rights.0 -
If I had known the answer, I would not have asked the question. I thought the purpose of this forum was to help, not to berate people because they lack knowledge of a subject. If I didn't support our right to own arms I wouldn't be on here.

All I could gather on a recent trip to Yellowstone was that I could carry with an appropriate state (or reciprocal) permit, but could not bring a concealed weapon into any of the buildings (these seem to mainly be franchise stores/restaurants) to include the bathrooms. Makes one wonder if they are suggesting you keep your gun in your car all the time? Does a buttload of good there and makes it that much more likely some dirtbag will boost it from your glove compartment. Since these are mainly franchises, why the hell are they not required to abide by federal law and allow self defense carry? I for one am baffled by this blatant circumvention of a hard fought political self-defense victory. If you are a vendor in OUR national parks, you should be required to abide by the laws set forth. Shame on the NPS AND the current administration...punks and louts all. We should, perhaps, take a few of these NPS employees and Franchise vendors and turn them loose in East LA without a gun...see how THEY like being a target and defenseless. 0 -
I want to use this opportunity to once again let our members know that civility is considered to be the most important part of our time spent here in Ask The Experts. There is another forum down the hall where members seem free to jump to all sorts of unfounded conclusions and pass judgement on each other while the staff sits back and watches the show. If you are here for such a purpose then just walk back to the other forums because such antics are not tolerated here. This forum exists specifically as a vehicle for members to ask a wide variety of firearms related questions; and these questions include firearms laws and regulations. Simply not knowing a specific regulation out of the 20,000 firearms laws already on the books is NOT cause for jumping to conclusions about that persons stand on gun rights, or any other subject. 0 -

For the OP: The law has changed, but you have to follow your State law, as they still get the opportunity to restrict your rights in National Parks.
www.handgunlaw.us has been the best resource I have found to get current and specific info for your State laws, including whether or not CC is allowed in National and State parks.0 -

My brother and I went deer hunting in S.D. couple years ago. We hunted in the Blackhills. When we went to Wind Cave National Park & Custer State Park we were greeted by a CPO who kindly directed us back were we came from and told us not to come back until we removed the NUMEROUS weapons from our vehicle. We had to drive a while back to our cabins to put them up[V]0 -

If having your rightful concern, I'd do as advised in going on-line to the govt. entites involved, plus then printing out what applies to your situation. And carry that paper with you as proof, for is surprising how somehow some local personal are not up on current code.

Um, up to a point-- a LE pal has "hinted" about their force having "vehicle-equipted x-ray type scanners" on board that can scan you and what you have while just sitting there in your car. Google that if think I'm blowing smoke. So, like it or not, say welcome to the era of big brother's electronic eyesballs.
Regardless how, if found not incomplience, is it worth the fines, confiscations, and time in the pokey, etc???

I would never have thought to ask a firearm law question on the ATE forum. Isn't that what some of the other GB forums are for?

I Googled "Concealed Carry in..." and the third suggestion from Google (before I even got to the search) was ..."National Parks". I have to side with Mr. Fox on this issue.0
