Registering pistols no paper
I have a few 22LR pistols one was given to me by a friend many years ago (no longer in contact) and the other was my grandpa's then uncles now mine, Hi standard model "B" I believe my grandpa got it when he was in the military.
My question is what can I do with them? I'm selling most of my guns and would like to sell these as well. Do I need to register in my name first then sell?

Depends on what State you live in.
In some States there is no gun registration at all, and face-to-face sale of guns between adults otherwise legally able to possess them requires no paperwork.
In some States, there is required paperwork.0 -

If that is your question and you live in California, the answer is NO. I do not know about other states.0 -
To the new guys, what will become pretty obvious if you stay in the gun hobby/life is that probably 90% of gun laws are state, county, and city specific. Yes, there are some federal gun laws that apply nationwide, but, the ones that bite you in the glutius maximus are your local regulations. [:D] 0 -
I live in California, where all the laws go that other stats don't want. :c)
Just trying to get rid of all the "illegal" /unregistered guns.
I had to permanently disassemble the one in the pic that I played around with many years ago.

Assuming these guns are not properly registered to him in CA would he be allowed to either sell them to a CA dealer or even on the auction side so they go to an out of State dealer. In know here in CT I can accept handguns from out of State individuals. (We have an FFL) 0 -
You actually do not have any problems because CA law only mandates registration at point of sale, there is no regulation that all handguns in possession must be registered (there are hundreds of thousands that were purchased back when private sales were allowed and were never registered). You cannot simply sell these guns to a neighbor, you would both have to go to a CA dealer and have the transfer performed by him, which would also include the registration. You can sell them to any CA dealer and he will simply file a one page form with the DOJ stating that he is in possession or you can ship them to a dealer out of state and forget about them.
Nothing to worry about...Except something like the thing shown in the photo which looks like a handgun build up from a Marlin .22 rifle. That is big trouble anywhere!0 -
Mark C...I smell NFA on two counts.
W/O the stock on that rifle, does it constitute an AOW? Or is it a SBR? Or simply a handgun?
Either way, the [firearm-don't know the designation] appears to have a can attached.

I thought that you have X amount of time to register a firearm that was sold/ given or traded to you? All this time I have been stressed about getting the numbers run by fish n game or equal and coming back as not registered.
So if I understand you correctly there is a date at which you may have acquired a pistol or rifle and if before that date you don't have to register it?
I thought there was some law passed years ago where you had to register all unregistered guns?
As for the firearm in the pic, it no longer exists. It was fun though, like shooting an air-chisel.

Starting in 1990 direct face to face sales of firearms between private parties ended and at that point ALL firearms transfers (excepting Curio and relic long guns over 50 years old) had to go through a licensed CA firearms dealer. At that point all handguns that were transferred were automatically registered but any in possession prior to that date and obtained through private transfers remained unregistered. There is/was no law in CA that demanded every handgun in the state be registered so the simple possession of an unregistered handgun is a non event, there are hundreds or thousands of unregistered pistols in private hands. 0
